Tinda

General Information: This unique squash is native to India, very popular in Indian and Pakistani cooking with curry and many gourmet dishes. The tinda is an annual vine grown for its immature fruit, a vegetable especially popular in South Asia. The very tender and tasty fruit are flat round in shape and weight 3 to 4 ounces at harvest.

Prepared in India in a number of ways: cooked with curry or served with eggplant, peas, potatoes or other vegetables. They are equally esteemed as a vegetable, medicinal plant, and animal fodder. The light green fruit may also be pickled, or candied. The seeds are roasted and eaten as a snack. A good source of Vitamin A.
